Loading Image Clones

This brief guide will assist you in loading cloned hard drive images for the E-113 workstations located in the ACMI Industries service centre. If you do not have access for the computers in this location, please speak with your manager before using this guide. Please use the attached notes section at the end of the document to help with the process.

SETUP

  1. Verify you have a computer with the Clonezilla application ready. The app will be installed onto a USB flash drive that is labeled as such. If you do not have the flash drive, please contact management to have one provided.
  2. Be sure you have a hard drive that contains the image you want to load. Also, make sure you have a drive ready to accept that image.

Note: If the drives do not have labels, do NOT use them!

3. At this point, please take note of the serial numbers on the hard drives. Write both of them down and make a note of which one is the drive with the image on it. This will help to make sure you are using the right hard drive at the right time.

4. The service centre machines will have an open multi-bay to accept the drives, (see image below for reference). Insert one drive at a time and ensure that you hear the lock click sound as you insert them. You will not need to use force for this. If you are forcing it, you are most likely damaging the bay and drive.

5. Now you are ready to turn on the computer. If you hear a series of beeps and the machine does not start, please see service centre management staff for assistance.

USING CLONEZILLA

If the machine provided does not boot directly into the Clonezilla application, it will need to be configured for this. If you are not able to do this, please ask management to assist you.

Process Start:

  1. You should see the Clonezilla start screen after the machine boots. You can hit enter to start the app. If you do not, it will auto start a few seconds afterward in the same manner.
  2. You should now be asked to select the language you wish to use. Once you make your selection with the keyboard, hit enter.
  3. The system will now ask you to keep the keyboard layout. Simply hit enter here to move along.
  4. You are now asked to either “Start Clonezilla” or “Enter shell”. Please select “Start Clonezilla”.
  5. On the next screen your option of choice will be “device-image”. It should be highlighted already. If it is not, use the arrow keys to select it and hit enter.
  6. You should see a black screen appear in a moment. It may take a few moments to get ready. On this screen, you will see the two connected drives. Take note of the serial numbers again. You should be able to tell which drive is which by looking at the last few elements of the serial.
  7. When you are done reviewing the drive info, please hold the Ctrl key and press the letter c. “Ctrl + c”
  8. Now you will be prompted to choose the drive to mount as your source. Please select the drive that has the image on it. Look for the last five or six parts of the serial to verify it. You may see it listed more than one time.
  9. Your next choice is what mode you want to run Clonezilla in. Please select “Beginner Mode”.
  10. Select the “Restore Disk” option.
  11. The screen should now ask you to select the image you want to load. Select the proper image file. If you are unsure as to what file to use, please confer with management. (If you do not have this option, then you have selected the wrong drive at step 8).
  12. Now you are asked to select the drive to load the image onto. You should only have one option at this point. Hit enter to continue.
  13. You now have the option to implement checks on the image before starting the imaging process. You can select the skip option unless asked to check it.
  14. Next, you are asked what function to perform once the image is loaded. Select the option to “choose” and hit enter.
  15. Watch the prompts that show up below. Hit “y” for yes when asked each time. After doing this the imaging process will begin.
  16. You will see a progress screen appear. Once it completes, the new drive will now have the requested image loaded and is ready for setup on a kiosk.
  17. As the process is completed you can now either shut down the machine or leave it to restart the process for a new drive. You can safely remove the newly imaged drive at this time as well.

This completes the guide on the imaging process. Should you have further questions or concerns, please see management for additional help.
